Norman : Squirrel Trouble

Norm Macdonald is a comedian who has made a living appearing to be far dumber than he really is. This is not a novel concept in comedy of course, as it the court jester was the original fool’s fool, but Norm’s comedy belies a very sharp wit and a cunning mind. Which is why I call the young squirrel that robs my feeder daily Norm. He pretends I’m not there on the other side of the window, or at least secure that by the time I walk outside and around the corner the house, he will have plenty of time to casually scamper away. His friends will skedaddle the minute I rap on the window or at least open it. Norm barely acknowledges my presence. He might climb to the top of the outdoor shower which the feeder is attached to, and pause to consider what it is that I want. One might think that this sunflower stealing rodent has no real understanding of my reality, but I say he knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s taunting me.

Norm is playing with fire.
