[pb_blockquote author=”Unknown”]”You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream
and that is pretty much the same thing.”[/pb_blockquote]
When we were kids, we had an old, hand-crank ice cream maker that my father would break out on special occasions. The kids would take turns cranking the candle, adding ice and salt, and argue about who got to lick the spoons and the paddle when it was done. It didn’t happen very often but it sure was a big deal when it did.
Today we use an electric ice cream maker and don’t feel bad about it in the least. Uppie made this last night after dinner. Just mixed a few ingredients, beat a chocolate bar with a hammer in a bag, and threw the whole thing in the machine and waited 20 minutes. We are not really huge dessert people usually, but they are sure are fun to make and are real crowd pleasers. The biggest problem we have is that as empty-nesters, we are just finally figuring out how to cook for two people, but it doesn’t translate very well to dessert. How do you make a third of a pie? Can you make a pint of ice cream? Is it worth it? Consequently, a lot of our efforts get delivered in part to our kids and grandkids.
